Frequently Asked Questions


Who can participate?
- Currently enrolled in one of our affliated Universities
- Enrolled as a full time or part time student
- Graduate or undergraduate students

How many people in a team?
- 2 to 4 students

Who can be on my team?
- The majority of team members must be undergraduate students. This is to ensure that no team will have an advantage.

What if I can’t get anyone else on my team?
- IBB will help you find people who also need team members.

How many rounds are there?
-1st round will be held simultaneously in 5 different countries. The winners from each country moves on to the second round.
-2nd round will be held in Macedonia, where the winners of the first round competition from the 5 countries will compete.

What is the prize structure?
- We have over $20 000 of prizes to be won as well for second and third place.
- Winners of the first round will win an all inclusive trip to Macedonia to compete in the second round

When is the deadline to register teams in the competition?
- Canada: December 5th, 2009
- USA: TBA
- UK: December 11, 2009
- China: TBA
- Brazil:November 27, 2009

What costs are included in the trip to Macedonia?
- Airfare
- Lodging and transportation
- meal (dinner)

Who will I get to meet?
- Students from universities around the world
- Meeting government officials, including the Prime Minister of Macedonia
- Representatives from World Organizations
- International Business executives
- Industry Experts in the Renewable Energy Sector
- Corporate investors, as well as investors within the industry

To whom will I present the business case?
- Round one: a panel of judges. Each panel will consist of a faculty professor, an investor, and an industry expert in renewable energy. This is strictly shown to the panel of judges only. Each country will follow a similar but unique format during this procedure.

Can a judge or a sponsor use our ideas?
- There is a waiver that must be signed by all participants for the possible usage of information from the business plans. If a judge or sponsor wants to use studetn’s ideas, they must sumbit a request to IBB. IBB will then ask the students if they are willing to let them use their ideas.

Do we have to use powerpoint to do the presentation?
- Yes
Do all team members need to present to the panel of judges?
- Yes
How do the judges mark?
- There is a standardized marking scheme for the judges

What exactly has to be in the business case?
- You will receive a package upon confirmation of registering that will detail the contents of the business plan

When are the dates the winners of the first round of the competition will travel to Macedonia?
- May 12-20, 2010 are our tentative scheduled dates.

What if I can’t travel during those times?
- Investors Beyond Borders expects all team members to attend this one-week stay in Macedonia, where students will learn about Macedonia, it’s investment potential, the renewable energy sector, and ultimately see if their business plan is feasible. Students will have to present in Macedonia for the second round of the competition. If you have other plans, such as summer school, or work, we ask that you plan the possibility to take a week off. Students will have some free time during the trip for their own leisure.

How many pages does the business plan have to be?
- It will be detailed in the package provided to students that will outline the requirements of the competition once your team signs up.

What if I have no idea about the Macedonian economy? Where can I get the resources?
- There will be a list of sources for you to start your research on the IBB website.
