For seven days we will travel relevant regions in Macedonia and explore areas with existing
renewable energy investments and sites for potential development.
Our journey begins in Skopje as we visit and explore Macedonia’s investment zones, business
district, the first natural gas cogeneration plant in the region and a hydro plant situated within a
canyon. We then continue our travels, heading South West as we explore a number of sites excellent for
hydro and geothermal power generation. A stopover in Ohrid is a must – Macedonia’s tourist -
popular city and home to the Balkan’s oldest lake and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lake Ohrid.
Members will enjoy a site seeing tour of monasteries dating as far back as the 10th century,
Byzantine ruins, fortresses, an amphitheatre and a boat ride on the lake.
The southern region is one of the sunniest places in the Balkans receiving over 300 days of sun. The
Pelagonija flat plains show existing potential for solar development and members will receive an upclose
and high end view of this region. The travels in Macedonia’s East region will take us to one of the country’s most fertile pieces of land and the hottest for that matter. Geothermal and biomass production facilities will be our main focus
here.
The central region has the advantage of being the windiest spots and most suitable for wind energy.
Members will visit the town of Sveti Nikole before heading back to Skopje for a special half day
conference explaining Macedonia’s energy legislation, production and investment incentives.Geography
